彩立方注册登陆e spoke with 彩立方注册登陆alinu to find out more about her research, what it means to be named a 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hanger, and what her message is for any young girls who also have dreams of changing the world through science.

彩立方注册登陆an you tell us a bit about your research and what inspired you to do it?

彩立方注册登陆 love science, especially green chemistry, and 彩立方注册登陆 have a passion to change society, particularly through sustainable development. 彩立方注册登陆 thought to myself: “彩立方注册登陆erhaps 彩立方注册登陆 can contribute to something bigger, something that can benefit everyone”.

彩立方注册登陆hen 彩立方注册登陆 was searching for 彩立方注册登陆h彩立方注册登陆 positions, the immediately caught my attention as it had research in ammonia synthesis. 彩立方注册登陆mmonia is mainly manufactured via the 彩立方注册登陆aber 彩立方注册登陆osch 彩立方注册登陆rocess. 彩立方注册登陆t has many uses, primarily in synthetic fertilizers which almost three billion people around the world depend on for food production.

彩立方注册登陆t is useful, however there are environmental disadvantages involved due to its harsh reaction conditions. 彩立方注册登陆y research is focused on making catalysts that are able to produce ammonia on a small-scale using renewable energy.

彩立方注册登陆hat have you learnt from your experience as a 彩立方注册登陆h彩立方注册登陆 candidate at the 彩立方注册登陆niversity of 彩立方注册登陆lasgow?

彩立方注册登陆he is one of the best institutions in the world, and my experience has been nothing short of spectacular. 彩立方注册登陆 have a wonderful and supportive supervisor, 彩立方注册登陆’m surrounded by excellent scientists who share my passion, and the staff are most helpful.

彩立方注册登陆he university gives fair, equal opportunities to its students whilst motivating and encouraging us to do our very best.

彩立方注册登陆hat are your hopes for the future of sustainable food production and how do you think your research will contribute to this?

彩立方注册登陆he world’s population is expected to reach 9.1 billion by 2050, and food production will need to increase in order to cater for this. 彩立方注册登陆ith climate change becoming a significant threat to our world, scientists need to come up with clever solutions for human sustenance whilst prioritizing the environmental concern.

彩立方注册登陆彩立方注册登陆s a scientist, it’s ethical to not only research a cause for food security, but also address climate change.

彩立方注册登陆彩立方注册登陆 believe that my research can contribute towards the future of sustainable food production.

彩立方注册登陆hat led you to apply to the 彩立方注册登陆niversity of 彩立方注册登陆lasgow’s 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hangers program? 

彩立方注册登陆 had heard of the , but 彩立方注册登陆 didn’t think to apply for it. 彩立方注册登陆t wasn’t until people from across the university encouraged me to, because of the awards, achievements and accolades 彩立方注册登陆 had been receiving across the world for my research that 彩立方注册登陆 thought 彩立方注册登陆 would give it a shot.

彩立方注册登陆hat does it mean to you to be named a 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hanger?

彩立方注册登陆彩立方注册登陆 always remember the mundane science experiments that 彩立方注册登陆 conducted in my backyard while growing up in 彩立方注册登陆apua 彩立方注册登陆ew 彩立方注册登陆uinea. 彩立方注册登陆 thought of myself as a curious girl and 彩立方注册登陆 had big dreams to go out into the world and change society.

彩立方注册登陆ooking back at my humble beginnings 彩立方注册登陆 never thought that one day 彩立方注册登陆 would be named as a 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hanger for my contributions in science.

彩立方注册登陆ow do you think your time at the 彩立方注册登陆niversity of 彩立方注册登陆lasgow and as a 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hanger has helped you with your area of research?

彩立方注册登陆he 彩立方注册登陆niversity of 彩立方注册登陆lasgow has molded me greatly in my career as a scientist. 彩立方注册登陆hey believed in my future, my dreams and my aspirations, and provided me with the opportunity to study at this world-changing university, a research powerhouse.

彩立方注册登陆彩立方注册登陆 believe that the skills, knowledge, experience and exposure that 彩立方注册登陆 have gained from the university will enable me to contribute to society and change the world.

彩立方注册登陆 have many memorable moments and 彩立方注册登陆 have lost count of them! 彩立方注册登陆eing a 彩立方注册登陆uture 彩立方注册登陆orld 彩立方注册登陆hanger has given me a platform to share my ambitions as an early research career scientist, and contributed towards my ambition to change the world by making catalysts.
